"Selfies" trend!!

You may ask yourself when you see people taking selfies everywhere, what is a selfie??.

Definition: A photo of oneself usually taken with a mobile phone and posted online to social media sites.

2005 to 2008 was dominated by MySpace, the largest social network then who started the selfie concept by letting users
upload a ‘MySpace pic.’

Fast forward to August 28, 2013, when ‘Selfie’ has been officially added to Oxford Dictionary.

All kinds of people from kids to important public figures like The Pope have starting taking selfies.

A century from now, there may be departments of "Selfie Studies" at our universities. This is how revealing these documents are, the quickly snapped self portraits we create with smart phones and share with the world as if it were a fundamental human right.
While so many of them are silly, the phenomenon seems significant.  To many it is a source of being cool and on fashion so
cheer up guys and take a selfie!

Intrinsic Motivation

Intrinsic motivation refers to motivation that is driven by an interest or

enjoyment in the task itself, and exists within the individual rather than

relying on any external pressure. Intrinsic Motivation is based on taking

pleasure in an activity rather working towards an external reward.

Students who are intrinsically motivated are more likely to engage in the

task willingly as well as work to improve their skills, which will increase

their capabilities. Students are likely to be intrinsically motivated if they

1- attribute their educational results to factors under their

own control,  also known as autonomy

2- believe they have the skill that will allow them to be effective agents in

reaching desired goals (i.e. the results are not determined by luck),

3- Are interested in mastering a topic, rather than just rote-learning to achieve good grades.

You can get smarter VS intelligence is fixed!

Many teachers believe that intelligence is fixed and that a smart boy is

smart without and effort from her side and student with a limited

capacity will not improve. This is a common misconception, since

children’s learning is determined by their effective effort and use of

appropriate strategies. “Intelligence” is not a fixed inborn limit on

learning capacity. All children gave the raw material to do rigorous

academic material at high standards. Intelligence can indeed be

developed and that effective effort and good strategies are the

principal determinants of academic success. Are you with those who

believe in fixed intelligence?

Why students misbehave???

You are always asking your self “why students misbehave?” and probably

don’t reach a clear answer. You should keep in mind that all behavior has

an origin or cause. I will list for you the most ten common causes of

disruptive or inattentive behavior:

 1- Poor management

 2- Not clear objectives

3- Inappropriate work: too hard or too easy

4- Boring instruction: you didn't meet all learning styles

 5- Confusing instruction: being unclear

6- A need for fun and stimulation

 7- Value and culture clashes

8- Internal physical causes

 9- Student sense of powerlessness

10- Too high expectations

Responding to students’ answers

Teachers are on an ongoing process where they communicate expectations
to their students all the time.

Especially when teachers respond to their

students. This is a very important issue where teacher’s actions have

embedded messages about what’s important and about her belief in the

student’s capacity. The way teachers respond to student answers is

probably more important than the questions themselves. Our responses as

teachers signal to individuals whether it is safe to speak out or not. So we

should watch out our words while responding to our students, we should

not criticize, shout out, mock their answers, or even give the correct

answer right away. We should give students a logical wait time and try to

be supportive as possible as we can!

Tips to deal with negative people!

Have you ever dealt with negative people before? If you have, you will know that the experience can be quite a downer.
I used to have an ex-colleague who was very negative. In our conversations, she would complain endlessly about her co-workers, her work and her life. Talking to her wasn't a pleasant experience at all. When I met her, I decided to go online and look for tips to deal with such negative persons. And here I am, I will provide you with some suggestions in case you know any negative person:
- Don't engage in negativity with them
- Try to change the topic continuously.
- Talk indirectly about a positive experience in your life while talking to them.
- Try to keep a smile on your face, it's contagious!!
- Don't talk to them in personal issues, spread hope through talking about lighter issues (weather,  cooking, hobbies, dreams..)

Love your students :)

This is the most successful tasty recipe ever!  To you current teachers reading my post and to

teachers in made "love them", love them truly, show them that you care for them and you respect

their opinions and points of view. Our students know how we feel about them, no matter if they are

grade one or grade nine students; they can catch up that easily from our behaviors and looks.

When you love your students that will be reflected in each and every step in your classroom. You

will act naturally, you will tend to smile whenever felt you need to, you will be able to manage and

control your classroom and student's behavior better. Since students when touch your love will

tend to love you too, and control the behavior that may annoy you.

The moment i knew i was going to be a teacher i thought that i will surely love my students

because of my daily contact with them. But i never imagined that will miss them on holidays, or

that I will cry when someone of them get hurt. Last week "Yossof" a grade one student was

running in the play ground and fell on the ground and his knee was injured. I cried...felt as if

something happened to myself. Some might considered over sensitivity, but to me it's enough to

say that " I really  LOVE my students" :)

Being a teacher...being a mom

Being a teacher was a dream that i dreamed of since childhood. I can remember how i used to arrange my puppets on my bed as if they are in their classroom and teach them. How nice is the feeling of being what you want and reaching your aims. Besides getting my dream true, there is much more to be said when I actually became a teacher. Especially that I am a teacher of grade one and two students', everyday I live a mother experience :). How sweet it is when students call you "mommy"!!! Or when they run to hug you tight. I laughed, cried and had awesome days with these kids. But all in all, I learned how being a teacher in a motherly figure is a big responsibility that requires much more than coming to school with your weekly preparation done. Being a teacher requires you to be a mother and  a friend, to know when to be firm and when to be soft, when to smile and when to frown, when to open a book and teach from it and when to teach from your heart... All what I can say is that being a teacher is the most wonderful thing I ever did. :)

Imagination

How nice it is to go away...and really away from your surrounding, out of your self, away from everything holding you tight. Just imagine yourself in the life you always dreamed yourself to be in. The life that is full of ideals and ambitions, dreams and success. Actually, when you want to do that you can simply do it by using a very precious thing that we own which is "IMAGINATION".
Imagination, what a buzz word it is, to you it might be meaningless , but to me it is my whole life. It is what I was yesterday, what I am now, and what I will be. Once I imagined myself living a happy life, working in the field I adore and continuing my higher education. And here I am doing it all simply by using my imagination. So scratch your imagination and live the life you want to life and be the person you want to be :)
